The use of an absolute cross-sectional area size to define CTS on ultrasound may not be accurate, as different people may have different sizes of the median nerve.
One suggestion is to compare the area at the proximal edge of the pronator quadratus muscle, to the area inside the tunnel at the level of the pisiform, to look for significant compression.
