Pregnancy is an immunological marvel: the mother is able to fend off germs and malignancies and yet not reject the “parasitic alien” within. Therefore, for those who are subfertile or suffer recurrent miscarriages, it is not inconceivable (pardon the pun) that an immune defect may play a role. This is quite obvious in patients with rheumatic diseases like Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis and Lupus.
